106 EW Calanca, Switzerland
On the southern side of the Alps lies the Swiss municipality of Calanca (Canton of Grisons), which decided to build a 106 p.e. wastewater treatment plant. High above the valley floor, it was intended to treat wastewater from two fractions.
Since the official access is by aerial cableway, delivery with concrete is very difficult and impossible for larger loads. So it was decided to use two Carat XXL tanks made of plastic (1 time DN 2500, length 13,293 mm, weight approx. 2200 kg with 52,000 lt. capacity, and 1 time DN 2500, length 10,026 mm, weight approx. 1900 kg with 38,000 lt. capacity).
These comparatively light tanks were flown up from the valley over an altitude of 500 meters with the help of a large helicopter and the installation could begin.
