Nitrogen removal
7 years of extensive research and development - today we are PIA certified. This certificate demonstrates the effectiveness of nutrient removal in our wastewater treatment systems.
This shows how the already good results in the standard test procedure can be further improved by selecting the "D+" program in the control system or by adding a liquid carbon source (C). To this end, our wastewater treatment plant was tested with both alternative operating modes over several weeks at the PIA testing institute following successful CE testing.
Nitrogen is a normal component in our wastewater treatment plants, but too much nitrogen unbalances the ecosystem in the water. With a simple reprogramming of our KLARO control.S and M control systems, we can achieve a constant discharge value below 10 mg/l.

Features of "D+"
- Improvement is achieved by changing the sequence of the purification steps; first nitriphase, then deniphase. The necessary carbon is added via a short intermediate feed with wastewater from the primary clarifier
- The program option can be called up in all Control.S and .M control units
- No additional components are required
- On average, Nges < 10 mg/l were achieved with this system
Features of C dosing
- Improvement is achieved through the targeted addition of a nutrient solution (C source) during the deniphase
- The system must be equipped with the KLARO C module for this purpose
- Additional effort compared to "D+" - but even better and more stable values - more effective readjustment is also possible
- On average, Nges < 5 mg/l and Pges < 2 mg/l were achieved with this system
- Also works at low water temperatures <12°C
- Alternative method for P elimination if classic precipitants with aluminum and iron are not permitted (otherwise these are to be preferred)
Phosphate precipitation with the KLARO P module
Phosphates in wastewater can only be partially absorbed by bacteria. In order to efficiently reduce the remaining phosphate content, chemical precipitation is required. This can be implemented easily and reliably with the innovative KLARO P modules.
A dosing pump integrated in the control cabinet automatically doses the precipitant directly into the aeration tank in a targeted manner - and in minimal quantities. The precipitant reacts with the phosphate and forms an insoluble compound that settles in the tank with the sludge. Thanks to this method, even demanding limit values such as Pges < 1 mg/l can be complied with.
KLARO offers various module sizes and suitable accessories depending on requirements. In addition, the control system allows the dosing to be adjusted based on the measured P values in the effluent.
Your benefits at a glance:
- Simple and efficient solution
- Certified and tested cleaning performance
- Many years of practical experience

Carbon dosing with the KLARO C module
In the aeration stage, carbon can be added in a targeted manner to compensate for a nutrient deficiency. This is particularly helpful during extreme underload phases or when the composition of the wastewater is unfavorable. The KLARO C module provides a simple and effective solution for such challenges.
A special, fully biodegradable nutrient solution is automatically and precisely dosed into the aeration tank via a dosing pump integrated into the control cabinet - in minimal quantities. The system is flexibly adaptable: the dosing can be individually adjusted via the control system, depending on requirements.
The KLARO C module enables:
Stabilization of the activated sludge, even when wastewater has been stagnant for months.
Compensation of nutrient imbalances, such as incomplete denitrification due to a carbon deficiency and nitrogen surplus.
Depending on the requirements, KLARO offers various module sizes and a wide range of accessories. This ensures that the cleaning performance is maintained even under difficult conditions.
Your advantages at a glance:
- Simple and efficient solution
- Certified and tested cleaning performance
- Many years of practical experience

Wastewater disinfection with the KLARO UV module
Disinfection with ultraviolet light (UV) is an effective and user-friendly method. The UV light destroys the DNA structure of viruses and bacteria within seconds, rendering them harmless - without any residues, harmful by-products or odors.
The KLARO UV module consists of a submersible pump, a UV reactor made of robust stainless steel and a ballast for control. KLARO offers UV systems in different sizes and variants, which can be installed flexibly in a tank or dry in a technical room. The operating mode can be time-controlled or level-dependent to ensure maximum efficiency.
Your benefits at a glance:
- Generally recognized and widely used technology
- No residues or by-products in the waste water
- Maintenance-friendly system
- Tested and certified cleaning performance

Wastewater disinfection with KLARO e-chlorination
Adding chlorine to wastewater is a proven and robust method of wastewater disinfection. Chlorine penetrates the cell walls of bacteria and destroys their enzymes, reliably killing microorganisms. Thanks to its depot effect, chlorine also protects the wastewater from recontamination.
The specially developed KL e-chlorination module is mainly used outside Germany and impresses with its efficiency and precision. It consists of a sensor unit for precise demand dosing, a dosing unit and a chlorine contact tank for optimum mixing and reaction time.
Commercially available chlorine bleach is used as the disinfectant. The precise dosing achieves excellent disinfection results, while the residual chlorine content in the waste water is reduced to a minimum.
Your benefits at a glance:
- High operational reliability
- Precise dosing without risk of over- or underdosing
- Maintenance-friendly design
- Certified and tested cleaning performance

Reuse with the KLARO Re-use System
KLARO's Re-use module is an innovative in-house development that enables the sustainable reuse of wastewater. It combines two powerful technologies:
Rapid sand filtration (sand filter module) for mechanical cleaning.
Disinfection with the e-chlorination module to reliably eliminate germs.
The treated process water is stored directly in the chlorine contact tank and can then be used in a variety of ways, for example for irrigation. The Re-use module is specially designed for smaller systems with a capacity of up to approx. 50 population equivalents (PE) and is primarily used in dry, hot regions. There it represents a sensible alternative to the rainwater cistern commonly used in Germany.
Your advantages at a glance:
- 100 % recycling of the waste water produced on site
- Daily availability of service water - regardless of rainfall
- Simple and reliable operation
- Certified and tested cleaning performance

Sand filtration with the KLARO sand filter
A downstream sand filter ensures the effective removal of suspended solids in the effluent of biologically treated wastewater treatment plants. Often used as a "police filter" or additional safety stage, it is an important addition to the treatment technology.
The specially developed KLARO sand filter module is a compact solution for rapid sand filtration. The wastewater is pumped through a high-performance double-layer filter medium that reliably retains solids. The system cleans itself in regular backwash phases, whereby the collected solids are returned to the clarifier.
Thanks to its small design and automated backwash function, the module is particularly space-saving and easy to maintain. It is ideal for smaller systems up to 50 population equivalents (PE) and guarantees additional operational reliability.
Your benefits at a glance:
- Increased operational reliability thanks to additional filter stage
- Compact design - ideal for small systems
- Automatic backwashing for minimal maintenance effort
- Tested and certified cleaning performance
